Paleo Cottage Pie Recipe

Today we would be making some cottage pie. As yummy as it may sound, it is very easy to make with little or no stress involved in the preparation. It is one of the few recipes you could make and consume in advance by storing in your refrigerator after one or two days and it will still taste lovely. Cottage pie has a very rich feeling especially when eaten with a salad by its side. In this recipe, we are going to be using common fruits that could be easily plucked from the garden at the back of our houses.


  • 1½ pounds ground beef
  • Large ball onion
  • 2 large carrots
  • 1 broccoli
  • Fresh rosemary
  • 2 tbsp. Tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp. Root powder
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 1 cup bambara
  • Butter/olive oil
  • 1 tspn. Pepper
  • Pinch of salt


  • 1 medium-sized yam
  • 1 egg
  • Butter
  • Omen milk
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Step 1: melt the butter in the skillet on the oven. You could mix it with olive oil if you please. Now add the ground beef into the skillet, cook in medium heat for 5 minutes. After it has cooked, pour the content from the skillet into another bowl.


Step 2: add the vegetables in the skillet (dice them beforehand). Allow it to soften for 10 minutes. Now add the garlic before removing the vegetables from the skillet.


Note: the garlic wasn’t added with other vegetables in the skillet because it would burn.


Step 3: add the grounded beef back into the skillet.dissolve the root powder into half cup of water to enable easy mixture with the veggies and beef in the skillet.

Step 4: add the tomato paste, red wine and the chicken bambara and stir carefully.


Step 5: add the rosemary and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the juice in it basically dries up.


Step 6: cook the yams, boil it and wait till its soft. Mash it alongside the egg yolk, butter and omen milk. Keep mashing until you get a creamy, puffy and smoothe texture.

Step 7: Get a baking dish and coat with a little butter (to avoid stickiness). Place the meat sauce on it, spread the mashed yam around it until it covers the entire surface.

Step 8: place the entire dish in an oven preheated in 425°F and leave for about 15 minutes until its golden and crispy.


There you have it, the cottage pie. Yummy and easy to make at home and anywhere. All with fresh veggies and other few ingredients. Enjoy !
